Ruskie Rural’s Kailzie Kapers
17 ladies left Callander early ( for the non farmers ) to head to Rosslyn Chapel. We had a lovely talk about the history of the chapel and then a wee walk around the grounds. Then it was lunch at the Dawyck Botanical Gardens. Some had a walk around the gardens which were stunning. We then arrived at our accommodation near Peebles and had a lovely buffet meal outside and delicious cakes made by Coco Black in Peebles. Delicious.
On day 2 we started off with a very hearty breakfast - made even better with pancakes baked by our very own Sharon. Two ladies went cycling and the rest ventured in to Peebles and had walks of varying lengths along the Tweed with stunning views of Niedpath Castle. We then went to St Mary’s Loch and Loch of the Lowes which was very scenic and some ladies had a very refreshing swim. Back to the Bunkhouse for another buffet dinner and lots of fun.
Day 3 again fuelled by pancakes made by Sharon, Muriel and Noreen went for a cycle in to Peebles whilst the rest of us went to see the Great Tapestry of Scotland in Galashiels. This was a very interesting linear depiction of the history of Scotland going back 12,000 years. We spent about 3 hours there and even then we didn’t do it justice.
We had a delicious lunch outside in the cafe of Kailzie Gardens. Then we came home for a little rest before heading to see the Polish Map of Scotland at the Barony Castle Hotel in Eddleston. We had a delicious meal there before coming home to the Big Lodge to enjoy a last evening of good company and a little tipple.
Finally homeward bound. We visited Traquair House for the morning before heading home after lunch. Really worth visiting the house and the gardens. The cafe was certainly top notch. We’ve had a fabulous trip to Peebles.
Lots of good company and laughs. Till next time
