100th Birthday Lunch

For our 100th anniversary we gathered at Venacher Lochside for a stunning lunch in a spectacular location with over 50 guests celebrating a combined Ruskie Rural membership duration of almost 700 years so there was lots to talk about!

In between reminiscing and sharing rural experiences across members and guests we heard from Anne who read out the birthday cards we received, plus the first meeting minutes and attendee list (with many familiar family names and addresses) and, as we move onto new premises for our second hundred years (for access to parking and flushing toilets!), a brief reminder of the history of our cherished Ruskie Rural Hall.

Members reflections on ‘what Ruskie means to me” ranged from an opportunity to develop skills in cooking, craft & life; to recognising the importance of the Ruskie Burn; being online and digital in the 21st century; and the wide range of opportunities Ruskie offers for trips and events … but most of all the fun and friendship being part of this wonderful group brings.

Thanks were given to Anne and Liz for all of their hard work in organising us today, and all year; and gifts were given to recognise the honorary members. Susie Finlayson, National President, closed out the celebration recognising the outstanding achievements of Ruskie and it’s members, and wishing us continued success for future generations.
