The Conference will be opened on Wednesday 11th September by Mr Barney Crockett, the Lord Provost of Aberdeen.
Speakers - Gillian Paterson – designer & maker of historic costumes & Story Teller. Louise Blanchfield - Nutritional Therapist, Jim Hume – ‘Support in Mind’ – Scotland’s National Rural Health Forum, Marjory Tenant - hatmaker, Deborah Leslie - author, prizewinning Doric writer and after dinner speaker, Helen McCook, Royal School of Needlework. Other speakers are to be confirmed & information regarding this will be published on the website and in the magazine.
Members should note that the Conference will open at 10.30 a.m. and close between 3 and 4 p.m. on the Wednesday and on the Thursday will open at 10.30 am and close at 1.00 p.m. The Prize giving of trophies will be held on Wednesday 11th September at 2.00 p.m. Further information will be given when available.
Evening Entertainment - On Tuesday evening this will be the Education & International National Competition winners. On Wednesday evening - Aberdeenshire Federation have organised the entertainment. This will be the Longside Singers & Friends. Tickets for both are £7.50 each.
COMPETITIONS - Exhibition of Competition Items will take place on 10 & 11 September. The Exhibitions will be in the Beach Ballroom. Opening on Tuesday 10th September from 2.00 p.m. until 5.00pm last admission 4pm Wednesday 11th September from 9 a.m. until 5pm, last admission 4.pm. THE EXHIBITIONS WILL NOT BE OPEN ON THURSDAY. Entries can be collected between 1 and 2 p.m. on Thursday 12th September. Closing Date for competition entries 21 June, items for judging to be in Headquarters by 26 July.
EDUCATION & INTERNATIONAL COMPETITIONS - The categories for the Art Competitions are oils/acrylics, watercolours, and any other medium. The Theme for oils/acrylics is “A Walk on the Prom”; The theme for watercolours is “Flowers”; there is no theme for the any other medium category.
THE PLAYFAIR-HANNAY COMPETITION - is “A Colourful Child’s Knitted Jumper” (Up to Age 5). Non-competitive entries are welcome. Entries are non-returnable and will be donated to charity.
THE SUTTON COMPETITION - is “Six Landscape Photographs of Scottish Scenes, Suitable for a Calendar (15.24cm x 10.15cm) to be displayed on an A3 sheet.
WARNOCK TROPHY COMPETITION - the 2019 competition is for an A4 sized poster, desined in any medium, including hand drawn and computer generated, entitled “A Vision of the SWI in 2019”
